Spring Cleaning With Essential Oils

spring clean

Well, spring is right around the corner. Time to think about Spring Cleaning! One of our favorite things to do! Right!! Well,  I have  always loved spring and the weather it brings; and as much as I dread it I do love the smell and look my house has with a good old fashioned spring cleaning. One of the many things I love about using doTERRA  essential oils is the ability to use natural products to clean my home. I am going to share a few tips and DIY items for your consideration over the next several days. Happy Cleaning!

Did you know that Americans spend over 5 billion dollars a year on cleaning products, with the average household spending close to $700 dollars a year on just cleaning supplies alone. According to this Web MD article http://www.webmd.com/health-ehome-9/green-cleaning “These products [antibacterials and harsh cleansers] don’t work any better than their natural or non-toxic counterparts, and they damage the environment and potentially place our long-term health at risk.”

To make your household safer, get rid of the risk of household cleansers by making your own  at home. They are affordable, easy to make , eco-friendly, and just as effective (if not more) than store bought cleaners. Make sure to check back over the next few days for more ways to make your own cleaning supplies at home and get some tips for cleaning with oils.

The next time you clean your bathroom, I recommend mixing up an effective cleaner with many ingredients you already have at home. Soft Scrub for Bath, Tile, and Toilet

Make this in small batches and store in an airtight container. This recipe  is enough for two to four applications. This soft scrub is excellent for getting rid of soap scum, removing stains, and brightening your tile and toilet. To use, just apply and let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then scrub. Once done scrubbing, take a wet cloth and wipe clean.

What you Need:

  • 3/4 rounded cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup liquid castile soap ***
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 5-10 drops dōTERRA Lemon essential oil

***Liquid castile soap is a vegetable-based soap commonly found in health food stores and I get mine at Target. Dr. Bronner’s is a popular one. Look for unscented. This scrub is also great to use to help clean your kitchen sink, refrigerator, or tile floor .

I am going to end this day one of Spring Cleaning with a microwave cleaning tip. This will be your AFTER picture.

MIcrowave

STEAM CLEANING YOUR MICROWAVE

This microwave trick is noting short of amazing. You are not going to believe how well it works! Basically, it  simply steams up the microwave, loosens up the yuckiness and makes it extremely  easy to wipe down.  TRY IT!!  You will be amazed.  I simply can not stand a dirty microwave, so I do this often! I just like the smell it gives the kitchen too. So, here ya go.

  1. Fill a microwave safe bowl with water.
  2. Add 4 to 5 drops of Lemon Essential Oil (Or Citrus Bliss)
  3. Microwave for 5 or so minutes.
  4. Wipe your microwave down with a clean cloth

Not only is your microwave steam cleaned, it smells GREAT too.

Happy Oiling and let me know how these work for you.
